The IEEE Global Conference on Signal and Information Processing (GlobalSIP) is a flagship conference of the IEEE Signal Processing Society. GlobalSIP'15 will be held in Orlando, Florida, USA, December 14-16, 2015. The conference will focus on signal and information processing with an emphasis on up-and-coming signal processing themes. The conference will feature world-class speakers, tutorials, exhibits, and sessions consisting of poster or oral presentations. Outstanding papers will be selected for Best Paper Awards or Best Student Paper Awards; a paper is eligible for a best student paper award if the first author of the paper is a student. IEEE Signal Processing Society and National Science Foundation will provide travel grants to eligible students.

This presentation analyzes parallel scalability and coding speed of our open-source Kvazaar HEVC intra encoder on Intel Xeon Phi 61-core coprocessor that supports up to four hardware threads per core. The evaluated parallelization schemes of Kvazaar are 1) Wavefront Parallel Processing (WPP); and 2) tiles, both accelerated with picture-level parallel processing. With WPP, the C implementation of Kvazaar high-quality preset achieves an average speedup of 1.3 and a bit rate gain of 0.7% over the respective implementation of x265.

This paper considers unconstrained convex optimiza- tion problems with time-varying objective functions. We propose algorithms with a discrete time-sampling scheme to find and track the solution trajectory based on prediction and correction steps, while sampling the problem data at a constant rate of 1{h, where h is the length of the sampling interval. The prediction step is derived by analyzing the iso-residual dynamics of the optimality conditions.

The inability of automated edge detection methods inspired from primal sketch models to accurately calculate object edges under the influence of pixel noise is an open problem. Extending the principles of image perception i.e. Weber-Fechner law, and Sheperd similarity law, we propose a new edge detection method and formulation that use perceived brightness and neighbourhood similarity calculations in the determination of robust object edges.

We propose in this paper a new method to compute the characteristic function (CF) of generalized Gaussian (GG) random variable in terms of the Fox H function. The CF of the sum of two independent GG random variables is then deduced. Based on this results, the probability density function (PDF) and the cumulative distribution function (CDF) of the sum distribution are obtained. These functions are expressed in terms of the bivariate Fox H function. Next, the statistics of the distribution of the sum, such as the moments, the cumulant, and the kurtosis, are analyzed and computed.
